MarketMaker: Linking Farmers to Markets Through Technology
Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA)
This project represents a coordinated effort of like-minded organizations, to create a documented portfolio of farms, businesses and useful market data that will become the foundation for a virtual market hub. This platform will enable buyers, sellers and intermediaries to connect with one another and gather useful market intelligence. A successful model can help food supply chains in Latin American countries operate more efficiently and lower the threshold for profitable participation on the part of small and midsized farmers. It also will have the capacity to enhance the visibility of products grown in Latin America by marketing the online portfolio of producers to potential buyers and supply chain collaborators.
Urgent need for innovation in agriculture will define the agenda of the Meeting of Ministers (see related note)
